Now that Popular Communications has been defunct for several years, I've
posted scans of the other two articles I wrote for them.

The first is on the CEI/WJ RS-111 receiver purchased by James McCord
using money from President Nixon's Committee to Re-Elect the President.
McCord finagled this using personal connections on the WJ sales staff
from his days with the CIA. WJ came to regret that sale. This radio
was in the Howard Johnson's across the street from the Watergate during
the break-in.

The other article is a short biography of Allen S. Clarke, who founded
Clarke Instruments which later merged with the National Electric Machine
Shop to become Nems-Clarke with Clarke as president. After arranging
the sale of Nems-Clarke to the conglomerate Vitro Corporation, Clarke,
contractually obligated by no compete clause, worked behind the scenes
to help six Nems employees found Communication Electronics, Inc which
eventually became the renowned Gaithersburg facility of Watkins-Johnson.

The links are on the home page of both sites.

Best,
Terry O'

Hello Emilio,
thanks for your message.

I have a DEBEG 2000 somewhere. I don't know if it is still working. Last
time I saw it was a couple years ago. As I remember two key caps from the
keyboard were missing.

Where are you in Italy? I will be at the Marzaglia swapmeet near Modena on
May 14. Unfortunately I no longer have the capability to copy the EPROM. If
I find my DEBEG 2000 I will bring it along.

I have owned this receiver for many years, however, recently I blew up ?the
power supply module, swapped it out with a known working one and works
fine..so... is there anyone on this list that repairs the power supply
modules or has a spare he is willing to sell? ?Much appreciate.. Tim ?K8WBL

Hi Tim,

You "blew up" Power Supply- what that mean? Accidental short circuit, or
what? What the hell happen?
Understand, bolts and nuts not your field of activity...Usually solid state
device's will became dead if something wrong in Power Supply...
Check them all if you can...I'm in Russia-far away to deal with your trouble
personaly...

Usually some few IC Voltage Regulators there, they normally in socets (TO-3
Case) very ease to replace them...

Where can I get some software to operate a WJ-8723- 3?
Any clues would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Joe -

Give ERGO a try. I believe that the WJ-8723 contains the same exact circuit
boards that are in the WJ-8711s and WJ-8712s. Both of these receivers work
well with the ERGO software. Good chance that you may be able to use the
WJ-8723 by simulating either of the other two receivers during the software
setup and configuration. If that doesn`t work, there is always the good old
WJ-RCS32 software that was often utilized with any of the three receivers
mentioned here. Problem is that the old WJ software is a little difficult to
find and will only run on Windows XP as far as I know.

Good luck,

......... John, WA1NLJ
