Now that Popular Communications has been defunct for several years, I've
posted scans of the other two articles I wrote for them.
The first is on the CEI/WJ RS-111 receiver purchased by James McCord
using money from President Nixon's Committee to Re-Elect the President.
McCord finagled this using personal connections on the WJ sales staff
from his days with the CIA. WJ came to regret that sale. This radio
was in the Howard Johnson's across the street from the Watergate during
the break-in.
The other article is a short biography of Allen S. Clarke, who founded
Clarke Instruments which later merged with the National Electric Machine
Shop to become Nems-Clarke with Clarke as president. After arranging
the sale of Nems-Clarke to the conglomerate Vitro Corporation, Clarke,
contractually obligated by no compete clause, worked behind the scenes
to help six Nems employees found Communication Electronics, Inc which
eventually became the renowned Gaithersburg facility of Watkins-Johnson.
The links are on the home page of both sites.
Best,
Terry O'
