Thank you, Charles. You nailed the problem, and its solution, exactly. The independent review you linked to is new to me, and very helpful. The receiver has normal sensitivity in the BC band when the BFO & BC TUNE control is peaked…as stated in the instruction manual. Not only had I not RTFM but I had not even RTF control label!
