WJ8615D-4. Here's a complete description of the radio as requested. It's on
eBay with a fixed price but I can take it down if someone on premium-rx
wants it: $1500.00 plus shipping.

Best Regards,
Steve

Watkins-Johnson WJ-8615D-4 sn 11 HF/VHF/UHF Receiver 2 MHz - 1100 MHz (this
version has all the desirable options loaded): Watkins-Johnson WJ-8615D-4
HF/VHF/UHF receiver fully optioned. It was manufactured in 1986 and it is a
late model. The microprocessor is a Motorola 6809. Firmware located in 2
EPROMs defines the radios command set. The WJ-8615D-4 has additional
shielding incorporated to reduce LO oscillator emissions and it meets
MIL-STD-461. Operations such as scanning and stepping can be controlled by a
master receiver over the 488 interface (not included). Some options are
configured by plug in cards and firmware changes. This unit has firmware VER
E.1.5 making it usable as a hand off receiver. It can be controlled by an
8615P or 8610 controller. This radio also has the 2nd LO overload option. If
the input signal exceeds -50 dBm and COR is active audio will be muted and
the signal meter will go to zero. If COR is not set audio will pass even if
the 2nd LO is overloaded. The wide IF filter selection makes this radio
ideal for all types of signal search. AFC on this radio is very fast and
accurate making it ideal for satellite tracking. This radio has a number of
very nice options.

Notes:
1) This radio also has the optional internal tracking pre-selector and 2
MHz to 1100 MHz frequency extenders.
2) The firmware is the correct version, VER E.1.5. Read about the major
features of operation in the " Basic Operation" paragraph on the lower half
of this page.
3) This radio will receive all common modulation types both narrow and wide
band (FM mobile, FM Broadcast, Single Side Band, CW, etc). It spans all of
the HF shortwave, VHF, and UHF Bands and there are no gaps.
4) Manual local tuning or remote automated searches are programmable when
used with an external controller (not provided).
5) On this version AFC works with all bandwidths.
6) The first IF BW is 10 KHz, not 20 KHz. The filter was updated but the
overlay was not. One picture shows the actual filters that are installed.

compatibility SSL).

Basic Operation: The 8615D-4 is a compact automated surveillance receiver
that was design by Watkins-Johnson to intercept all types of radio traffic.
This D-4 version represents a configuration called SSL (Scan Step Lockout).
The operator can choose manual operations from the front panel or
automatically search for signals by using a remote controller such as an
8615P radio or 8610 controller. Stepping is a feature that allows the radio
to scan preset frequencies that the operator places in memory. Scanning is a
feature that allows the radio to sweep a preset range of frequencies. All of
the modulation modes and IF bandwidths can be configured in any combination.
The COR / Squelch functions allow the operator to decide when the radio
responds to an active signal and decode the audio signal. AFC (automatic
frequency control) when selected allows the radio to track a moving signal
or lock on the center of a signal that is off frequency. During programmed
searches or manual sweeps this feature can help locate signals that are
periodic or weak. The wide selection of IF bandwidths and modulation types
allows listening to all common types of transmission including data types.
The LED tuning bar indicates approximate center frequency tuning. A phone
jack and volume knob are provided for private listening. The rear panel has
a number of jacks that allow the radio to be connected to decoders, audio
devices, computers, printers, other radios. This radio was designed to
directly connect to the WJ SM-9205 and SM-9206 half rack signal monitors. If
you want to know more about this radio please register on the PCS Associates
WEB site and download the manuals.

Repair History: This receiver is fully restored. The critical tantalum
capacitors have been replaced and the radio has been aligned. There is a 1
year warranty. The tuning knob, headphone knob, and tuning encoder have been
replaced.

Alignments Performed- Reference, A/D, AGC, AFC, COR, AM / FM / CW / SSB
demodulator, uP Power Fail Adjust, Verified DC operating voltages.
Condition: This receiver is working perfectly. I would rate it cosmetically
as a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. There are signs of age, keys are normal color,
minor scratches, no front panel oxidation. It is in overall excellent
condition. The 488 interface receives commands and passes data. The firmware
is version E.1.5.
Accessories: A new line cord has been provided. The supplied CD contains a
copy of the 8615D and S1 manuals.
Note: Forced air cooling is not required for this type of receiver. The
receiver has an internal low noise cooling fan fitted for office
applications.
