>From my records the 356 is listed as a variant of the 354 with an expanded
tuning range to 900 kHz and a special 50 kHz IF to provide simultaneous AM
& FM outputs. It was contracted in March 1967.

The notes in my files seem to indicate only 4 were made. The contract was
received from a DOD agency that I'm told I can't name. That agency paid
$6,200 per copy, twice the going rate for a 354 (and at a time when a new
Ferrari 275 was $8400).

There was another version of the 356 made. The 356-1 added a "slideback
gate" and was contacted in Feb 1971.

I suspect many of the modules in the 356 have much in common with the 354,
a radio for which manuals have been floating around.

The 356 was contracted at roughly the same time as the 358, a unit which
eventually went out the door as the DMS-105. My hunch is that someone in
the agency was seeking to unpack some suspected or new combination of
subcarriers and/or multiplexing that were just beyond the capability of
the 354.

If you could send me pictures of the unit, especially any stickers/labels
showing who owned it and/or where it has been, I'd appreciate it. This is
a rare variant of the 350 through 358 family, which were really hot items
during the height of the Cold War.
