Hi Al,

What you are describing sounds normal. The -17 is only specified to go down 
to 500 KHz and with performance dropping below 2 MHz if it has the HFE 
pre-selector installed (see attached). The antenna section has LNAs that 
increase VHF / UHF sensitivity. There were versions of the 8617B that had LF 
up converters such as the -18. The -17 is really a lab receiver, (see 
Spencer Bahner's write up attached). He actually removed the LNAs to make 
his radios usable. It's all in his white paper on the Terry O' WEB site.

LFE -  At the low end of the band 500khz, the spectrum trace  ramps up on 
the left.
500khz to 1.5mhz has low sensitivity. Any ideas why this ramp is there and 
the low sensitivity?
