Hello all,

One of my receivers, a JRC NRD-220 DSC Watchkeeping Receiver, has developed
a fault on the CMF-99 board, which contains the DSC Demodulator circuitry.
The receiver performs very well on the six GMDSS channels but because of the
fault the receiver will not interrupt its scanning and come to rest on the
active channel. Removing the board, resetting the CPU and replacing the
memory battery has had no effect on the problem and the front panel displays
a fault for this board (No.4). All internal contacts and connections are
clean and tight.

It's my guess that a component, likely the CPU IC, has failed. Would anyone
on the list be familiar with this problem and be in the position of offering
suggestions? Or, does anyone have access to a replacement CMF-99 board that
I might be able to purchase? The receiver operates perfectly in the manual
mode, tuning one channel at a time but I am used to leaving it on in the
scanning mode; stopping to demodulate and decode GMDSS call as they are
received and would like very much to restore this function. Despite being
manufactured in 1996, the radio looks brand new and has that great JRC build
quality. I'd rather not give up on it.

Thanks very much for any help our list members may be able to provide.

Ken Maltz, KC2YRJ
