 Hello Clements,

Latex or rubber-tree based adhesive will be good one with ordinary practise (dry, clean surface prepared with sand paper before), normally need to wait when adhesive will slightly became dry before fix parts in place, but in this case you need to place ribbon instantly after apply adhesive to the parts surface, othewise ribbon will difficult to put properly in place...

Be carefull with so called "cianoacrilate" adhesive types-they will damage the ribbon...
When rubber will fixed on the knob and dryed  (in the next day) spray it with Silicon Spray it will bring back for old rubber some fresh outlook.

Do not use spirit or solvent to remove adhesive-they will damage paint if it there...
