About KAL 007 historical aspects: from my own view not Western, but the Eastern certainly different: KAL 007 in big darkness till now,I  think and sure, we will never know full details about.
That not simple mistake with GPS navigation system, but much more complicated things involved...KAL 007 was in the soviet territory at least two times. First one over the soviet territory, but that is not simple territory with a forest and fields, but  very special area- soviet strategic nuclear sub's naval base in the Far East. Camchatcka penisula...

One more very interesting things: in the same time with KAL 007 other big US Reconnaisance Plane in background of the scene-well packed with sophisticated reconaisance equipment
in same time, in the same course, not so far away...For what? That is the big question...

Soviet Mig fighter pilot destiny was small coin in that "big political games"...His life was totally distroyed after the accident...
Reagan share the NSA special information with public specially to make "Those Soviets" like a busturds who killed the passenger liners! Simply for nothing! Big political painted noise...

By the way fighter pilot at first tryed to make contact by VHF radio with KAL 007- no body respond...Then he fired rockets not far away from liner to atract attantion-no reaction from them..Why?...

And then he got order to shut down the plane...They dont  know exactly whats going on? Passenger liner or special mission plane...
probably in the next century we will know the thrue in full details, mybe never ever...
