Gentlemen,

Microdyne 700 receivers are a high quality way to receive satellite telemetry signals or monitor their uplink command signals as well. They have modules for various input frequencies, IF bandwidths, and demodulators. They are capable of locking onto the received signal and tracking its shifts due to propagation and doppler shift during a satellite pass over a ground station. I have used these and similar units for years and have found them to be excellent (and quite premium) receivers. It is not uncommon to "front end" them with an LNA and downconverter so that signals in the extreme microwave region can be demodulated.

They can be used at lower frequencies as well. I did a project back at the university using one of these with a quadrifiler helix antenna to receiver 137 MHz weather satellite images so that they could be processed, rectified, and registered with a map database. The receiver did the job nicely.

You have a nice receiver in that rack!

Trying to organize my receiver racks and ran across a Microdyne 700-MR receiver. Anyone know what this premium receiver was used for and what is it useful for?
