I sent you the manual scans of the interface pages directly as they don't go
through lists very well.
I paid too much for my 590A many years ago. I've not seen that many true 590A's
for sale. Oddly, I've seen some R-2368's which seemed internally more like the
590 than the 590A. The 590A is still current production IIRC.
There are a couple of mods which can help: one is a bypass mod for the
preselector which most receivers have. If you have more need to receive weak
signals and less to have the ultimate selectivity against out of band signals
you will want to bypass the preselector. You can do that permanently by
rearranging cables inside or you can mod the preselector to look at the Noise
Blanker enable signal which passes through it and use that to force a bypass.
Most receivers do not have the NB installed. I wrote up this mod some years ago
but don't have it handy, although I've heard from people who found it on the web
and implemented it successfully.
The AGC, especially on slow, can have an annoying sound. Harris explained to me
that the receiver was designed for data modes as a system component and
listening quality was secondary. I found a particular resistor to change and
make it sound tons better. You need to change it in tow places as the AGC is
separate for USB and LSB. Try it first, if you don't mind it, leave it as it
is. My change made it sound more "analog."
