I have two WJ-8618A receivers that I've owned for about 15 years and
it's time to clear them out. $450 each, your choice, plus shipping from
53704. You can figure they weigh about 75 pounds properly boxed up.

The WJ-8618 was designed in competition with the Regco (RG-5500, which
lost, but was still manufactured in small numbers) for a contract
offered by "the fort", as the employees euphemistically called it. I
wrote this story up in the Nov 2010 Popular Communications (can be read
here:
http://blackradios.terryo.org/documents/publications/e-Cold-Warriors.pdf
). It was the first microprocessor controlled, digitally synthesized
VHF/UHF radio ever successfully built.

The A version was built between 1980 and 1982. The FE was standard, so
all the radios tune 20-1000 MHz. The Signal Monitor was also standard.
They are EMI/Tempest hardened radios. The full manual is available
(with prior registration) on the PCS Associates website.

The two radios I have are:

Serial No. 32 - Has IFs of 50, 250 & 500 kHz, options listed on the
back as DRD, 488, PAS, REF, ASC and WBO. I popped the top and the 488
card is present. I did not pop the bottom off to check for the WBO.
I'm unsure about the other options. The radio powers up and shows the
expected 20 MHz, but does not tune. The signal monitor has a clear
display and shows noise. The front panel is very nice with only very
small glue patches and tiny scratches.

Serial No. 51 - Has IFs of 50, 300 & 1000 kHz, options listed on the
back as DRD, ANS, 488, REF, WBO and ASO. I popped the top and the 488
and ASO cards are present. I did not pop the bottom off to check for
the WBO. I'm unsure about the other options. The battery has been
removed and replaced with three NimH AAs in a holder. They are dead.
The radio does not boot into the expected presets, but it lights up.
The front panel has some minor scratches and the center of the tuning
knob has some minor scratches but they do not break through to the
metal. The top cover is missing about 8-9 of the screws.

These are priced so I hope they'll move along with minimal investment of
time on my part. They are totally as-is. I can send external photos on
request.

I will not ship outside the US.

Best,
Terry O'
