Werner,

I am very sure that Steve knows best but you may want to check something out
first. Do the pushbuttons show signs of excessive scuffing on their external
surfaces ? I have experienced the same problems on a previously owned 8716
and an 8718. The buttons were getting stuck because they were rubbing
against the front panel cutouts. Problem was :

the switch frame assembly was slightly out of alignment where it was
fastened to the rear of the front panel. It is not a formidable task to
check the problem out since the front panel can be easily dropped by
removing the (6) front panel screws and unplugging (4) easily accessible
ribbon cable assemblies. Gently loosen the (4) tiny screws that hold the
entire switch frame assembly to the front panel. Do not remove the screws or
you will suffer the fate described by Steve in his reply to your inquiry.
Gently manipulate the assembly slightly up, down, or from side to side until
the pushbuttons are correctly aligned in the front panel cutouts and move
freely without making contact with the metal on the front panel. At that
point, retighten the (4) screws and reassemble the front panel. Sounds like
a complex operation but it is really simple and just may save you the grief
of searching for a new assembly, etc. Just a shot in the dark that worked
for me twice. Best of luck,

John, WA1NLJ
