Hi All
I have the receiver working well. Problems turned out to be 
a number of broken wires both underneath modules A3 & A4.
In addition a number behind the front panel had been broken.
The BFO/XTAL switch was faulty as the actual switch contacts 
were no longer in existence. No sign of over voltage, arcing etc, just 
fair wear & tear. I created a new pot and switch by cobbling 
together various rotary switch parts and a NOS pot.
I guess this part is unobtainable as it is a combination of a
1K & a 10K dual pot with a changeover swicth operated at the 
clockwise end of the pot travel.
Appears to be a very sensitive receiver.
