Hello

 I wonder if you can open it and see if it can be cleaned / repaired. 

 I remember fixing a few encoders on older HP test equipment. I am not sure if you can open up the RF590A encoder.
 Sometimes problem is dust, sometimes a simple burned out resistor.... or sometimes a broken piece that is harder to fix.

 I you need to purchase a new one, I suggest the following source: USDIGITAL.com

 I used their low cost encoder to replace the encoder in a Telefunken E1700 and worked perfect.

 I checked around and finally I thought they had a good sturdy unit for a price around $ 40 - $ 50, while others were asking well over $ 150.

 I added some series resistors just in case the pulses were beyond the limits and not fully compatible with the older unit so that 
 these resistors would protect the new encoder.

 Hello All Is there anyone here with a spare shaft encoder for a Harris R-2368/rf-590A receiver? Btw the rf-1310 does not use one.
