[Premium-Rx] Antenna question

Hi Michael
I'm quite a fan of Wellbrook too, with a couple of 1530s waiting to go
outside again and currently a 5030 mounted on a rotator in the loft.
Just out of interest, and with reference to Jack's comment earlier, have
you investigated where your loop starts to lose its directivity?
I've used the loft mounted 5030 in two locations, first within 30 miles of
London and now out on the west coast of Scotland, with neither location
offering any significant nearby metallic reflectors, and my impression has
always been that they start to lose directivity towards the top end of Medium
Wave anyway.
That's not meant to imply any criticism of Wellbrook, I've used other
active loops that exhibit similar performance, but just wondered if that was the
norm?
Regards
Nigel

A propos John's offering tonight, I have a Wellbrook Loop mounted three
floors up on the roof and I can attest to its excellence right down to
VLF.
If it does intermodulate, it certainly does not show it.
By way of example the strongest station here on LW is Radio 4 on 198 kHz
which booms in at around 10 - 15mV PD, and Radio 5 Live is a litle
stronger
on 909kHz, yet weak signals just 9kHz away are not affected.
It picks up less absolute RF than a long wire but a hell of a lot less
noise, so the S+n/n is excellent.
The Loop also exhibits about 30dB directivity when exactly broadside and
that is useful if you mount it on a rotator.
