I have the R-2412 (VHF/UHF) version of the Cubic and it shares many of the
same problems as the 3030 series. In my case it is the 1st Local Oscillator
module that will fault but sometimes swapping from side by side the problem
moves, other times it does not. It is definitely a receiver that is "jinky"
and not up for off-the-shelf module swapping (unless you have lots of
modules).
I bought a GBIC to USB converter and have an industrial control program
that allowed me to build a custom screen and write my own communications
driver. (Don't ask, the application costs x5 times more than the radio and
I only have my developers USB key to let it work). I did the same with a
couple of receivers that are all controlled from the same software package
with "pages" for each different radio. The converter cost about $300 on
eBay. I have yet to find a cheaper way of doing GBIC conversion and
fortunately the other receivers are EIA-232 interfaces.
