I see that one of the sellers is "Bigapple" who is Randy M.
I don't know him personally, but we have done business before and talked many times. Randy is a seller to be trusted (IMO), very helpful, courteous, etc. Ask him anything concerning the radio before bidding. The one reason I go back to him besides his honesty, is the way he packages things for shipping ... very professional and safe. I only reason I bring this up is b/c of the cost of the item - not a casual investment - so I hope it's of some help or reassurance.
As far as the radio goes, I've never used that particular Skanti model, but do know that the few others easily exceeded MilSpec construction and performance and (I suppose) whatever Euro Marine Stds that apply. I forget the models offhand, but they were very quiet, sensitive, stable, etc. I only presume that this model exhibits similar qualities.
Just be sure you will be happy with incremental controls from membrane push-button switches and no knobs to twiddle.
Good luck and please keep us posted,
Bob, N1KPR

Hello All
Looking for advice on a Skanti Receiver. The one in question is a R-8001. It is in beautiful shape.
Curious if there are opinions on this radio. And also (if this is allowed) what a fair price would be. There are two on EBay. One is from the guy in China and the other is from a guy in PA. both are in the $1500.00 range. One was sold not long ago for $860.00. I will say that it is a very pretty radio and supposedly quite rare;
