I worked for WJ/CEI back in the 1970's and although I left shortly before the 8718's were built I was told of the following problem. A bunch of these radios were shipped to China via Air Freight. When they arrived they didn't work anf it was discovered that alot of tantalytic caps had gone bad. This wasblamed on the fact that the radios were shipped in an unheated and unpressurized cargo compartment of the aircraft. Whether this was actually the cause, WJ sent technicians to China and replaced alot of capacitors. I would check your power supply electrolytics since the hum you have may be caused by high PS ripple. Then have a go at the tantalytics....a visual check might show a damaged cap. Then try one card at a time as has been suggested.
