Dear Chas
Thanks for your email. I don't know that particular balun or have access to
the Hatfield data sheet and so can't help much. As a guide, the plate on my
Type 3151 hybrid (50 ohms), in pristine condition, states that it covers
0.5 - 50MHz. It is 1 in and 2 out. The serial number is B.2852.
>From this I suspect you may perhaps have swopped the serial number for the
type number because your Type number is very close to mine - 3156.
I also suspect that making more ports is more complex and critical and that
the frequency range spread will decrease as the number of output ports
increases.
I also have an older Hatfield wideband matching unit built into the the same
size of case but the case is unpainted (not the usual blue hammer finish of
the newer products). It is 75ohms in (unbalanced) and 600 ohms out
(balanced). The plate says it covers 200kHz - 100MHz. The type number is
AT F40F. The type number thus appears to bear no relation to the frequency
coverage.
My end guess is that your balun's range is probably similar to mine.
BTW I measured the frequency specs of one of my Mini-Circuits baluns and it
was quite a lot better than the specs in the catalogue. I can't speak for
the Hatfield balun.
I hope this helps
Michael
