Steve,
It's really good to have you back !
I would like to say that I have known Steve for several years. I consider him a close friend and he is a consummate engineering professional. He has performed refurbs on several of my WJ receivers and does excellent, reliable work. Part of his work involves test measurements that are made with world class, current instrumentation and painstaking documentation of all adjustments and/or repairs. He finalizes his work with burn-in and performance testing to factory specifications. He uses military specified replacement parts (if not made of nonobtainium) and treats the electronics he works on as his own.
I highly recommend Steve's capability and problem solving methodologies to bring life into into near End-of-Life status premium receiving equipment. Yes, those pesky, flakey SDU's can live bright and sharp again !
I would venture to estimate a large population of WJ receivers are suffering from chronic performance degradation due to failing components, exacerbated by the lack of adequate cooling for running equipment. This coupled with capacitor failures, mechanical shock (loose ground/cable connections?) and exposure to salt-air environments can destroy equipment over time. The good news is that an intelligent approach to troubleshooting and repair can give long added service life to a well engineered receiver. I think that the service that Steve offers is above and beyond with regards to keeping long-term customers.
Just thought all might like to know...
Best regards to list members !
-Scott

>I just rejoined the group after years away and see some interesting discussions. I service WJ radio equipment and just registered my new WEB site www.pcs-associates.com. I work on almost everything but don't have all of the manuals. Radios that I typically service are 8615's, 8617's, and 8716's. I'm listed under cage code 46RV3. If you have a particular need please email me and visit my WEB site.
