[Premium-Rx] Mackay noise

Heinz:
I'm curious as to what you contribute the source of the noise to be. Transistor junction noise, or phase noise, maybe from the display?
The reason I ask is that I have a 3030A (same as the one for auction), it's the only ITT/Mackay I own, and it is very quiet. I frequently use it for long-term monitoring since the tuning is done with decade switches and not a VFO, so it's less convenient for surfing around. But it's in the same rack as a couple of Watkins-Johnson 8718A's and a Racal 6790/GM and I really can't say which one is quieter, since they are all pretty good. Maybe I'm just lucky or could it be the display noise.
Just wondering what you think.

Best,

Bob

<<I have Mackay Marine 3031A with the dial knob in my collection and I
must confess that I am not really impressed. Same for the Mackay Marine
3020 and 3021.
These are early solid state units and they are quite noisy.
