I have a Cubic CDR-3280 with a Quadrature Digital IF output (I&Q). What
can this do for me? What can I connect it to? I have the manual and there is
no information on this.
Hi John
Welcome to the world of SDR:-)
IQ signals can be processed sing DSP software to demodulate any form of
modulation, let alone all the follow on filtering that DSP allows, and
there's a wealth of free software online for use with simple front ends, such as
the Softrock receiver series, which generate the IQ signals for just this
purpose.
If you Google on Gerald Youngblood, think that's spelt right, you should
find his articles from QEX or QST of a few years ago which kick started
amateur SDR.
For software Google should help again but a starting point might be Winrad
and it's later derivatives. Some later versions are enable for also
controlling various receivers but that part probably wouldn't be of much use to
you.
Processing is usually carried out by feeding the IQ signals to the line
input of a soundcard in the PC running the software, so you would need to
check compatibility as regards levels and frequency range of your signals.
regards
Nigel
