[Premium-Rx] Telefunken E1501

Hi all, 
I recently acquired a Telefunken E1501 and I like the looks and performance so far. Can it be considered as a "premium-rx" ? If so, any opinions on this receiver ? As mine doesn't have the RTTY decoder, I plan to use the slot to add a home brewn memory option to the receiver based on an ATMEL controller chip. So far I haven't had much success, as interfacing hardware to the E1501's frequency counter seems to be more tricky than the fact that it can be linked to another E1501 seems to suggest. I wonder if someone has some experience in this domain.
