Oh dear.  You do seem to have purchased a duff set.  Both the RA1772s that I 
have owned were in excellent condition inside and out, and the only problem 
over many years has been the PSU that we have discussed recently - just a 
dry joint in the 20V regulator IC.

Possibly your set had been what is called a "development mule" and subject 
to some experimental circuitry and something went wrong.   The desoldering, 
though, seems to have been rather cack-handed and amateur.  My method is to 
cut off the leads of the component and remove each lead one by one with a 
quick whiff of heat.  Gripping the lead with locking surgical forceps beats 
holding thin-nosed pliers.
