Hello Group,
I am trying to collect data about software that runs the WJ-8711/8712 and
the HF-1000 receivers.
Especially I would like to know what programs are there, who wrote them or
distributes them, what is the current version and what are your experiences.
This is what I have:
* RCS32:
By DRS (ex-Watkins Johnson): WJ-RCS32 is a collection of Windows
applications for real-time control and monitoring of various DRS
Technologies products. The applications operate under MicrosoftR WindowsR
95, 2000, NT or XP. The receiver control application includes both IF and RF
signal displays that incorporate point-and-click tuning operations. It
supports simultaneous operator-directed and automatic search operations on
multiple receivers. WJ-RCS32 offers built-in signal-analysis database tools
for easy editing, cataloging and hand-off to selected receivers. It also
includes signal logging with digital storage of receiver audio on the
controlling computer. Receivers supported: 860X up to 9908 Miniceptor or
digital receivers.

- Current version: Unknown. As XP is still supported, it might be that here
are no "new" versions (Win7) available.
* ERGO 4:
ERGO is integrated software for radio listeners. It provides
fully-integrated receiver control, database and propagation information -
all in one package. ERGO allows you to control either one or two receivers,
and link these to station databases and propagation information. This way,
you can scan the bands and the database will show you what you might be
hearing, the map will show you where the signals are coming from, and the
propagation chart estimates the best times for listening. Or, you can scan
the database and the receiver will follow along. Or, you can click on the
map and check what to expect from propagation conditions from the selected
location. You can also listen to a station on one receiver, and check other
frequencies with the second receiver. Getting the program to find the
receiver can be a bit tricky. After having chosen for instance WJ-8712, I
had to chose Com Port 7 as the interface port and not com port 1 as on my
pc. All in all it works well for.

- Current version of Dec. 31, 2008
* VisualRadio:
Made by Liedtke GmbH, Feldtal, Germany. "VisualRadio", ver. 7 of 2002. This
program was available in a version for the WJ-8712 receiver, but it is no
longer supported. Liedtke GmbH introduced a new program by the name of
"Falcon 9". As far as I know, WJ-receivers are not supported.

* ProjectWJ:
I don't know who wrote this software. It is one file by the name of
ProjectWJ.exe (12.08.2004)
* WJ8712:
Another program I don't know much abaout. All in all the program consists of
24 files. The exe-file named WJ8712 is of 30.06.2000. The complete program
is packed into a zipped file by the name of KWST.zip.
It runs on my XP,- not bad. All data on one glance. Easy to control.
Origin and autor are unknown to me.
* WJ8712:
Carl McGowan (UK) wrote a program (I think) that comes in a zipped file by
the name WJ8712v2.2.zip, date 24.10.2005
All in all 25 files packed, with an exe file named "WJ8712", date 12.12.2004
Currently I can not get it to work again. Possibly a driver conflict of some
sort.
Finally:
Unfortunately programs like Ham Radio Deluxe or such have not not been
modified for the WJ-rage of receivers.
This program I use with the Icom 8500. It does have all the functions (and
many) more that I use and it would be great to have that progarm running
with the WJ-8712.
Please let me know, if you have any additional information on the software
listed before or other programs, that are available for the WJ-8712/HF-1000.
Thanks. Best regards. Michael Starke
