Greetings All!

I usually watch and do not comment, but this time feel compelled. As one
of the largest WJ collectors around (still about 800 items, down from the
peak of 1300), I feel the Quad 8 is receiving undue praise.

While WJ was very proud of it, because it was their first real fully
synthesized HF receiver, it used "A" series CMOS, which had a lot of faults, and
the radio was not built really all that well. It was waaaay tough to
repair! (The filters were OK, Collins "loaf of bread" style, as I remember.) I
owned 2 of these (WJ-8888) and also has an SSQ-80, which was a Navy variant
(WJ 8880). Some of my pentagon buddies got me some doc's on it and it
seems they were not real happy with them, based on some correspondence I was
privy to.

The B version was much, much better.

These were some of my earliest sales on eBay, as I wanted rid of them.
Wonder which of you has them now?.....

The same is true with REGCO stuff, early synthesizers that you really want
no parts of. I still have some here, just because I have not made a
disposal run to the local surplus place in a while. (5500 and a few others).

Regards,
Jeff Kruth
