". . . concerning to the panel mounted speaker, it sounds terrible in my 1772 ... ... any solutions"
Two possibilities:
1. Remove the speaker and inspect the paper cone. If it is not damaged, carefully run a bead of solvent based adhesive around the outer edge of the paper cone where it meets the metal frame of the loudspeaker. If you are lucky, this may solve the problem by re-attaching the cone to the speaker frame.
2. Draw the outline of the speaker metal frame, mark and drill the mounting holes and use the drawing to make an aluminium plate (with a suitable large hole in the middle of course!), which will fit a modern speaker. Then install the new assembly.
I have never seen a loudspeaker which is a direct replacement for the 1772/1778 so, like vintage car owners, we sometimes have to improvise. Good luck!
