Hi Terry:
Do you know if there are any records to indicate what the -9 means for the 8718?
Also, what defines the presence of front panel selectable USB/LSB when in the ISB mode?
The permutations I've seen of this option don't seem to correlate to any specific name plate model number, a la; -A, -9, and A-9.
Many thanks,
Bob, N1KPR
The internal records show four versions of the 8716. They do not show
an 8716A, just a plain, and dashes -1, -2, & -3.
The 8718 records may provide insight as they are same radio w/o the RFI
shielding. There are 32 versions of the 8718, of which 5 were "A".
The 8718A notes the following changes from the 8718: "battery is on
back, line audio level is on front, automatic self-testing."
8716 production predates the 8718A for all versions except the 8716-3.
The 8716-3 arrived three years after the 8718A was developed. It may
have characteristics of the 8718A or not, depending on the wishes of the
agency that ordered it. It differs from all the other 8716s in that the
widest IF was 10 kHz instead of 16 kHz.
In any event the records do not show any radio produced as an 8716A.
Have you seen a nomenclature plate that says 8716A? If so, I'd love to
see a picture of it.
