Before we become entrenched in a thread that has strayed off-topic, please allow me to put it to rest.
Our subscribers come to this list to discuss premium radio receivers and engage in buy-sell-trade deals for same. While it can be quite tempting to make a disparaging remark about an item listed at what might subjectively appear to be a high price, it is really not what we are here for and is therefore discouraged. A more elegant response that would benefit the group would be to offer *your* copy of the book at what you would consider a more "reasonable" price. If someone offers an item on the list that is "overpriced," then it will not sell; no comment necessary.
This does broach an interesting issue in that the "Osterman Receiver Bible" has certainly become a sought after classic. Writing and publishing a book of this nature is more a dedicated labor of love than a path to great wealth, and we certainly owe Mr. Osterman our gratitude and thanks for this and the many other ways he has supported our hobby/obsession over the years. To request (beg?) that he consider publishing an updated version of the book would be nearly too much to ask, but I am certain he could count on help from the members of our group in compiling information or any other manner of assistance. I am also certain that Fred could count on us for pre-publication advanced sales to help in such an undertaking. As Fred is also a list subscriber (who privately has helped many of us in need), please know that the premium-rx list is always here to help!
Aside from taking this opportunity to heap some passive-agressive pressure on Fred for an updated version, I can state without reservation that I would not sell my copy of "Osterman" at that price.
Thanks, and let's stay on-topic!
Best regards,
-Paul W8ZO
