Hi Nigel,

This reminds me of my efforts to obtain the technical manual for a WS62
which I purchased from a South African surplus dealer in 1962, for the
princely sum of £2. The set was in working order, but its 12V power
connector was damaged. I tried to obtain the manual and the part via local
contacts, only to be informed that the set - and its documentation - were
still "classified". A polite letter to Pye Telecomm in Cambridge yielded the
manual for the Civvy Street version, together with a new connector. The
magic words "new Ham" and "engineering student" turned the tumblers.

The set did not remain in my shack for long, as its 920 kHz spur at -10 dBc
wreaked havoc with a popular broadcast station on 917 kHz!

Cheers for now, 73,

<< I wonder sometimes how they dream up these classifications on gear
that's getting on for 40 years old, especially when a Winradio 315, as just
one example, occupies a fraction of the space and is available to anyone.
