Thank you Cliff, Dan, Ron and Francis for the quick replies to my call for
help! I appreciate the tips and will give 'em a try.
I've also looked at Telford's Website (thanks again!) and they do not show a
manual for the 3790 series, but I have sent them an inquiry.
Again, I appreciate the quick responses. Hopefully I'll be able to fix it
so I can enjoy it as a receiver and not as a doorstop! :-)

OH, been there with the RA6830 when I put the radio in single step bit mode.
The 6830 has a battery backed up ram to hold data when it is turned off. I
put on an ESD strap and carefully unplugged the ram chip so it lost all the
settings and then it worked. I had to reload all the filters and reference
source. I later found all the key stroke information. They are usually a two
key operation LOC+ 1, LOC+0, LOC+8 and LOC+9 are a few used in the 6830.
Good luck!

Hello -
I have applied for membership to the list about a week ago and am awaiting
approval. I hope I'm not overstepping by asking for assistance at this
point.
Yesterday, I received a Racal RA3791 I recently purchased. It did not come
with an operator manual, so I had been looking online before I received it
and have been unable to find such a manual.
I plugged it in, connected an antenna and started playing with it. I ran
all the self tests and all passed. As I was continuing to explore the keys
and their functions, I hit a key combination (which I don't remember) that
resulted in the right side display showing the words STARTING LINK, then,
after a couple of seconds, REMOTE LINK FAILED. This is accompanied by the
keys and tuning knob all being locked, with the exception of the ADDR, key,
which only toggles a small "warning" triangle containing an exclamation
point off and on, the METER key, which only toggles the meter display
between RF and AF, and the L/S key, which causes only a small popping sound
from the speaker.
Unfortunately, it seems stuck in this mode as it repeats the right side
display showing STARTING LINK, then, after a couple of seconds, REMOTE LINK
FAILED when the radio is powered down and then back up again. The left side
display shows only the words FREQUENCY and KHz along the top edge and MASTER
along the bottom edge. The center display shows either the RF or AF meter,
both at full bars, and the word LOCK along the bottom edge. The right side
display only shows REMOTE LINK FAILED.
Can anyone on the list please tell me how to get the receiver out of this
mode? Also, does anyone know where I can obtain an operator/technical
manual for this receiver?
Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide.

p.s., I also have the pleasure of owning and enjoying a Racal RA6790/GM and
an Icom IC-R9000L.
