I added some filters to 590A. 455KHz filters with proper Impedance Matching
will do the job. I believe the terminating Impedances are 2000 Ohms on the
filters Harris used. But using transformers other impedances can be used. I dont know if the response would be optimum as each filter has different loss curve. i installed AM filter ( DSB ). but i think SSB filters have the same 455KHz IF. Also changing the first IF filter, or Roofing filter may help with SSB. 590A has a 16KHz filter centered at 40,455 MHz, i changed this to a 10 KHz wide filter for AM.
another point, if i am not mistaken the 3.1 KHz AM filter has a slightly different center freq as the oscillator changes freq when switched to 3.1Khz. but you are more concerned with the replacing the SSB filters.
have a great day. Ahmet
