Hi guys

To add my few pence into this thread, you can also find many of Racal-Dana
5MHz units in cheap surplus equipment. For example my old Racal-Dana 9916
frequency counter has an excellent 9442 standard (drift of 3 parts in 10^9
per degree C), and the same is also fitted in many RA1792 receivers.

I advertised this mint condition 600 MHz counter for £35 some time ago ago
in RadCom but no one was interested. The frequency standard alone was then
worth quite a bit more than that figure! It does not say much for the
technical knowledge of much of the amateur community!!

The last price I saw for such a standard on eBay was about £25, so not
exactly megabucks.

Another source is old scrapped Piccolo modems, the LA 1117. My one has the
top quality 9420 standard (drift of 6 parts in 10^10 per degree C).

The usual trouble is that some components have aged beyond the adjustment
range of the trimmer.
