[Premium-Rx] Relcom mixer, follow-up

Thanks to the help of list members I was able to get my undocumented ACL
HF receiver working just fine again. Full disclosure: while I was
convinced the DBM at the front end was defective, it turns out I was
mistaken, and the problem was weak LO injection. I thought I'd
eliminated that possibility but the ACL has separate buffered outputs to
drive the mixer and the frequency counter, and apparently I let that
confuse me. Weak injection voltage was leaking through a bad transistor
which allowed the receiver to work - but with very poor sensitivity.
So, I learned that LO injection level is pretty important and to always
measure, not just assume it's OK I can now hear 0.5uv signals and
have learned my way around this "mystery set". The most time-consuming
part of the fix was tearing the chassis apart enough so I could probe
the RF module while it was in operation. Modularity is nice, but
having a proper extender card is even nicer!
Has WJ or anyone ever heard of a similar follow-on design from WJ or any
successor company - with a 65 mhz first IF followed by 455 khz second IF
using Collins mechanical filters?
73 and thanks again for the help,
Bob W9RAN
