Here's a word to the wise: If you have an older premium receiver, check to
see if it has a nicad battery memory back up installed somewhere, and remove
it. Replace it with one away from the circuit boards and in an area where it
can be easily replaced. My next project will be to do that to my own
RF-590. I checked and it has not yet started to leak, but will at some point I'm
sure.

Hi John,
Very Good Advice! I would also like to add that if someone decides to add a
remote battery and place it away from any circuit boards to please give a
little thought as to how they mount the battery. I have seen several receivers
that were damaged because someone used two-sided "sticky tape" to hold the
battery on the chassis or else just tucked the battery underneath some other
wires or a ribbon cable to "hold it in place". In both cases the battery worked
loose and smashed into other circuit boards during shipping and caused
extensive damage. A battery has concentrated weight and can easily work loose if
not properly secured to a chassis if it is the size of 2 AA batteries or even
2 AAA's in a plastic holder.

It is easy to forget a battery is lying loose in a chassis if the receiver
is sitting on a shelf. But if the receiver is ever passed on to another person
or is shipped then real damage can happen!
