[Premium-Rx] WJ-8711A INFO REQUESTED

Hello to the all the List Members,
 
I need to request some information from Watkins Johnson cognoscenti  
concerning the WJ-8711A HF Digital Receiver.
 
My newly aquired receiver appears to have a manufacturing date around  Sept 
1994 and has the 797012D Digital Control PC board fitted.
 
A2. U56  871Y is 04.02.01 (9404)    A2.  U12  8711A is 03.02.00 (9345)  Front 
Panel  A1 U3  871Y  is 1.12
 
I do not believe that I can "upgrade" U12 to a later version, say,  04.01.10 
without changing the Digital Control board to the later 797214  type.
 
Can anyone confirm this please?
 
Quite a nice, ergonomic and intuitive radio, rather better than I expected.  
Makes me now wonder what the later versions are like?
