[Premium-RX] Cubic CDR-3280

Gentlemen,

When I was first introduced to the SWL hobby back in the early sixties,
serious shortwave receivers were built like battleships and sported an
assortment of knobs, buttons and switches that allowed for the easy
selection and adjustment of all modes and settings available for that
radio. Receiver design has arguably greatly improved since then, and
nowadays, most modern mid to high end receivers are either software
defined (SDR) or entirely computer controlled. These units either require
a separate computer running dedicated software to set parameters, or else
come equipped with a minimum number of controls and a graphical display
for the operator to set or change settings with.

I have come to the realization that I truly miss the ability to adjust my
receiver using knobs, buttons and switches rather than having to navigate
through multiple menus and submenus in order to set a given parameter. No
matter how smart the software/firmware or how first-rate the receiver’s
performance is, having to go through this hassle makes rapid frequency
selection and/or setting the mode, bandwidth or other parameter for a
specific signal rather awkward and counterintuitive.

I presently own a Cubic CDR3280 VLF/HF DSP receiver in excellent
condition. When I first obtained this radio back in April, I gave it a
thorough inspection and checked every aspect of the set. This resulted in
my replacing the vacuum fluorescent display, an EEPROM memory IC and a
small 12V fan with brand-new parts. These original components no longer
met their respective specifications, performed poorly, or had ceased to
function reliably with time (~14 years). The receiver now looks and
operates like a new one and meets all of its published specifications. I
have a printed operation and maintenance manual for the radio, and the
Cubic remote control software (VIRTCONT-02, HF Virtual Control Software)
that runs on a Windows PC via its RS-232 port.

The CDR3280 is unquestionably a premium receiver of the highest caliber,
extremely rare and hard to find on the used market, and still being
produced and sold by Cubic.

So here is my motive behind this rather lengthy preamble:

I would like to trade my radio for a DASA/AEG/Telefunken E-1800/3 VLF/HF
receiver and then pay any reasonable difference in price. The E-1800/3
must be in excellent used condition, both operationally and cosmetically,
and be equipped with the full complement of default IF filters. It should
contain all standard accessory plug-ins, be installed in a desktop
cabinet, and ideally come with a full set of printed (hardcopy)
documentation in English.

Barring that, I will want to sell the receiver giving the members of
Premium RX first chance before putting it up on eBay.
