[Premium-Rx] Omni Ball Antenna? Another weird antenna?

I'm trying to ID a very odd LF/HF antenna. It is configured as a sphere with
four blade elements. Each element makes a 180 degree arc from top to bottom
and there is a carbon fiber center post. The diameter is 13". Electrically
the elements are joined at the top and bottom. The bottom has a 5/16" fine
thread fitting. There are no air gaps like you would find in a traditional
loop. The elements are bands of magnetized steel with OD green powder
coating. If you put a compass near it the needle will point north away from
each element. The center frequency appears to be 5 MHz, a range of DC to 10
MHz. It is not amplified. It likes to be high off the ground, about 20 feet.
When it is close to the ground I can hear phase cancellation. Gain below 5
MHz is similar to a loop. It does not seem to be effected by local
electrical interference. I'm guessing that this is some variation of a
magnetic loop? I can send pictures. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve Pappin
