Get out the service manual; you'll find that there's a MUTE line that goes 
high (if I remember correctly) between the synth card and the audio card 
whenever the synth is out of lock.  Just cut this trace on the audio board 
(again, if I remember correctly) and you'll have audio during tuning.  I't 
sbeen 15 years since I modified mine - that line MIGHT have to go low - I 
can't remember for sure and my service manual is packed away *somewhere* 
:-).

Be advised, however, that you will now hear a "zzzzzz" like a zipper being 
opened when you tune quickly, or a little "blip" between frequencies if you 
tune slowly.  That's the synthesizer unlocking as you tune.

The 651S-1 has many attributes but band-cruising really isn't one of them!

Hi to all!
I have this radio and when tuning te radio the audio goes blank.
I used to have another 651S 1 and there was no blanking on it .
I remember there was a modification note but I cant seem to find it .
Can any body kindly help pse?
