The most direct way of connecting low-impedance headphones or speakers to an R-390 series receiver is with a matching transformer, 600 ohms to whatever (e.g., 8 ohms). These are usually available at Antique Electronic supply, made by Hammond Transformer. The alternative is to run the signal through a small audio amplifier, which will give you much more volume (the audio output is quite low on these beasts). The 600 ohm output can be run directly into line inputs of any kind. It is balanced, so polarity is not an issue.
