The gray paint used on WJ rack ears is actually a type of chem-film finish.
Many radios have wear and tear from rack installation. It is possible to
touch up the finish with an off the shelf paint from Testors. 36492 is a
very close match to the original finish. Depending on how it is applied the
touch up can be a near perfect match. Here are a few options I tried:

1) Strip the entire front panel and apply a new finish. Not the collectors
path but works well on a really trashed unit.

2) Use a 50% bleach solution to clean the ears and lighten them back to
original. Next apply the touch up using your fine model brushes and feather
the paint on.

3) Apply the touch up paint and let it cure. After it cures rub the touch up
with your fingers to darken it. The touch will match the older darker
finish. This works really well because the new paint will darken with time.

I have pictures that I can email to anyone who is interested.
