I think it's the same trick that can be used with receivers such as 
the JRC NRD-545 or the AOR 7030, where the use of a wide filter and a 
frequency offset can allow DRM reception without an IF downconverter. 
The offset produces a high pitched signal that the soundcard and the 
decoding software can process successfully, although I presume a 
downconverter would give better results.

By the way, DRM reception is possible in LSB too, with a symmetric +2 
- +2.4 kHz frequency offset.
