Hi Art, et. al.
The G-166 was a version of the Communications Electronics Inc. (CEI- later
part of WJ, the MD facility) 775 UHF receiver, repackaged for LTV during the
Vietnam war. It has an aircraft front panel with red lighted front panel,
etc. Also made for LTV was a version of the venerable 906 VHF receiver, called
the G-175. A Collins HF rec. was also repackaged, I think was a 51S1, called
a G-133 (may be wrong, its been a while).
I believe these were used in a recon aircraft, maybe EB-47 or RB-66?? Any
Old Crows out there with this info? Manuals for the 702/775 will be close
enough to figure out what's up.
I have one each of the CEI versions plus a lot of the other LTV stuff in the
collection (still have about 600 pcs of CEI/WJ in the garage!). Nice
receivers when up to spec. Also there is a version of the VHF with a panadapter
built in.
