[Premium-Rx] Racal RA1792 display irritant

Has any Racal enthusiast on the list found a reliable and non-invasive
method of solving the problem of the LCD and diffuser in the backlit RA 1792
parting company sooner or later? In production it seems that Racal
originally used double-sided tape, which inevitably fails with time and
heat. Various solutions seem to have been tried during the 1792's
professional life. I've seen superglue, Araldite and hot-melt adhesive run
along the side edges. Superglue is a total diasater since it wicks into the
gap and proceeds to eat into the rear of the LCD. But in principle I'd like
to avoid glues anyway, since it would be nice to be able to separate the
display and diffuser for cleaning as and when necessary.
Having just restored a late example, I'd like to solve this problem
elegantly. Has anyone tried grommet strip or something of the sort?
