Dear members,

I just purchased a used Harris RF-590 receiver that has the optional A17
Remote control assembly installed.
The module is marked as "A17 10073-6200 - Remote Control Assy"
I made a copy of the RF-590 manual that was graciously made available on
the Premium-RX site, and although there is a separate PDF file describing
the option (moda17.pdf) there is no mention as to what protocol is being
used for controlling the radio.
In the RF-590 specs section it states at the end:

> Remote Control (Optional, Internal Module)
> A microprocessor based system capable of accepting asynchronous serial
data in accordance with any one of the following formats:
> MIL-STD-188C, EIA Standard RS-232-C, or RS-422.
> Remote Control Functions: Frequency, Channel Select, IF BW, Mode,
AGC-TC, BFO, Fault-BITE Status, Scan Select, RF/IF Gain, and Channel
Load.

As I eventually intend to write a control program using Visual Basic or
LabVIEW, I will need to know what the codes are for all the available
commands, and if the radio can be interrogated for information such as
RSSI, operational status, etc.

I am somewhat puzzled as to why this information was not included
anywhere in the manual.

Any help concerning this will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete
