I haven't had any luck in finding any info so I opened the Nixie
display case and could not see or smell anything burnt. I noticed one
nixie module was a bit loose so I re-seated it and all the rest, voila,
all except one came up. I made a module swap and now then they all
worked for about a day. Now, sometimes with the correct frequency
displayed and other times with 8000.N, but only the last digit will
tune. Probably corroded contacts and poor seating on the first problem.
The second problem may be a cold solder joint since pressure on some
boards makes it work for a short time.
This has DAFC and I know that stands for digital automatic frequency
control but I'm not too sure on its use. There are two rotary swtiches,
with one labelled DAFC Last Digit with postions 0 to 9, it doesn't have
any effect. The other rotary labelled MODE with four postions Normal
Display: DAFC or Tune and Decimal Shift: Tune or DAFC. In both Normal
Display positions the Nixie display is medium brigtness and one decimal
place shown. On Decimal Shift in either position the display flashes on
and off at high brightness and shows two decimals places. The Last
Digit has no effect. Any tips on what DAFC is supposed to do and what
is an indication that its working properly?
Still looking for a schemactic.
This unit is quite sensitive and I pick up many weak BCB stations as
well as beacons with a short antenna.
tnx
