Aron,

On my 8718 I not only switch out the antenna but also
short out the antenna terminal to ground, this seems
to work OK for me although I still detect a strong
signal even shorting the input which can be a problem
with acoustic feedback if you are using a speaker
rather than headphones. The cure for the feedback
would be to also switch out the speaker connection
with the T/R relay. I would also be interested in a
simple mute solution for the 8718.
