Hello all ...
Big changes will be happening over the next month at the Premium-Rx List!
First, John Collins, who has been shouldering the load of running things for the past year, has had to withdraw, at least temporarily, due to continuing health problems that have dragged on longer than he or any of us had anticipated. The British end of the team that has been handling the list, John Ceresole, is not able to take over full responsibility due to other commitments. So after some thought, Greg Bailey and I have agreed to take back full responsibility for the list, at least on an interim basis.
Second, the list will move shortly to a new server that should allow long term operational stability. At the moment, the Premium-Rx is on my personal ISP account, which isn't ideal. The list will move to QTH.NET servers within the next month. QTH.NET hosts many radio related lists, and I expect many of you are subscribers to at least one. They provide a competent technical backup that will relieve our list moderators from the nuts and bolts stuff, and leave them to further develop the list itself. More information on this changeover will be sent out within a few days.
Third, many of you will remember a few years back when Greg and I solicited donations to support the list's operation. The response was so overwhelming that we closed the piggybank after less than 48 hours. These
donations have been paying the bills ever since, and I am happy to say the funds remaining in our piggybank will be donated to QTH.NET in support of their operation. As those who belong to other QTH lists know, that organization supports itself through periodic appeals for donations from the members of its lists. Those periodic requests will be the only real change you'll see. QTH.NET uses the same list software as we do now, so the behind the scenes procedures, your personal page, and the look of various list-related things, will stay much the same.
So that's it for now. Please be on the lookout for the details of the move, which will be out in the next few days, followed shortly by the actual change to the QTH.NET servers.
Thanks all! Any questions should be directed to either of us: jan at skirrow.org or gbailey at mail.sdsu.edu
