Hi all,
have been chatting with the makers of Wellbrook in UK and it has been
suggested that the ALA100 is the "best of all" for serious DX listening,
beating both the LFL1010 which I originally asked for as a VLF LF aerial and
the LA5030 which has a lower sensitivity.
Although the standard ALA100 requires a larger area for it's loop and this
probably contributes greatly to the increased signal capture, the wire
length is variable, with a larger area allowing use down to 10KHz with
excellent results. It seems there are no limiting internal components in the
amplifier.
Of course, the other great advantage is that the ALA100 is shipped as a
small black box and you locally supply the wire to make it work ! No
problems with postage etc.
I intend to get one and try it with a multi-turn loop to lower the prime
band of interest to suit my listening habits on the HF1000. I don't have the
real estate or the 'permission" to take up a large volume of sky and it will
be hard to rotate it if it exceeds a few meters in horizontal size. A very
small rotor will do the job.
Cheers,
Rick in Cairns AUS
